You know, I made the same "mistake", too. Taking Template as a base makes things easier to sprite, yes, but therefore, the standing, etc..., looks weird. By any means, try to refrain from using Template for spriting. I don't expect you to do things from scratch, you can take a different character as a base. But not Template
Other than that: as many before already mentioned, he looks a little flat. Shading is absolutely necessary if you don't want to create "Paper Mario LF2". Also, the light yellow hoodie and the light colored face are too close together. It's hard to see a difference. If you took green (just for an example), you'd get some really neat contrasts between the pants, hoodie, and face.
