I don't know, it bugs me that there's such a sudden change in sunlight. specifically on this one i do care a lot about scrolling

my thought was that you traveled quite a long time on the rest of the road - and the sun is supposed to be rising on the first sub stage so it simply became day time

Do you mean to let the sun go down again in the third substage or stage 3?
If the sun gets down again in the third substage, that would be waaay to quick. Sunset in the middle of stage 3 sounds good though ;)

One of those 3 backgrounds is a "fake" one. My guess would be the highway. So, is it a two layer background ( with foreground object and state: 9997 object as background), or is there some witchcraft and wizardry again?

time is relative - you don't know how much time you will have to spend on the mainland

9997 is only used for fade in and fade out so far
i might change that on some backgrounds tho

You're putting alot of little things into this mod. I really respect how in-depth ure going with these little tweaks. Good work man.

The flip looks very good, the rolling doesn't look very professional though. You could still have the flipping animation, but then continue with the actual rolling. That might look better, I don't know.

also the main point of having these two different ones is:
flipping doesn't change your direction, you are still facing your opponent (you will roll towards him when pressing D on the ground)
while doing a lil somersault will actually turn you around so you will roll away from your opponent on the ground
that's important for either dodging to the right or left afterwards (while still being predictable because the animations are different)

EDIT: louis kick. I'm tempted to ask for John's stuff.. but it looks like he's shaping up to be an epic character.. so I'm gonna keep his surprises for last as much as I can. :P

My stuff:

1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
