my perfect bg would be:

a small one with lots of beautiful animations

Anything with fire. Preferably explosions.

Well, usually I like beautiful BG's without any distracting animations best. Nevertheless, sometimes an animation like trees moving in the wind or a waterfall( which should always be animated) can be pretty nice. Size should be about as big as HKC, so the enemy can't hide

( while that arena is too small for me)
Anyway, if the animation really affects the game, sand- or icestorms, comets, lava, lightnings, I like that even better because it makes fighting a lot more interesting.
