I would've suggested an alternative if there was something better anyway.
Agree with Bamboori & Simon. I too would avoid asking for new jobs/quests at this point, if only to make it appear to them like we've trekked the area for too long and just want to rest.

Bamboori: Just the nearest town pretty much... except for Laneesh, for that's where we came from.
Escort Leader: Ah. Well, let's see. There's this village Glennsville just about in southern direction from here, it shouldn't be all too far. Maybe half a day's march.
Bamboori: Great, thanks. So, what are you guys doing here?
Escort Leader: We're a private escort hired by a few... renowned citizens. That's all I am permitted to say.

I'd suggest leaving them to their business and move towards Glennsville.
No need to cause trouble. Well, MORE trouble, anyway.

Bamboori: Okay, thanks for your help. We'll be on our way then.
Escort Leader: Goodbye.
The escort heads back to the camp.
SirFrog: Ok, let's keep heading southwards then, until we come to either a main road or the village directly.
The group continues into the direction they believe to be south, judging by the position of the sun. Bamboori yet again steps into something unusual [Bamboori -1 HP] and starts lamenting his lack of boots. After a longer while the density of trees around them gradually grows and slowly turns into a small wood. No end of the wood is in sight.
SirFrog: Ian. Mind if you told us more about yourself?
Ian: What is there to tell?
SirFrog: Your origins, for instance.
Ian keeps silent.
SirFrog: Guess you're not too keen on talking about it, are you?
Ian: No.
SirFrog: Well, I guess I understand. But perhaps after we've travelled for a longer time and get used to each other you will feel more comfortable about it.
Ian: ...
A few steps further.
Ian: Ok, I'll tell you. I was born and raised in the city of Razenshire to rich parents. My childhood was simple and fruitful, filled with happiness, laughter and satisfaction. The days of yore.
SirFrog: So how did you end up becoming a necromancer?
Ian: It just happened. Got interested.
SirFrog: ...well, I'm not sure I should believe your story. It sounds more like you don't want me asking anymore in future.
Ian: Right. I was in fact set out as an infant and raised by trolls.
SirFrog: Alright, I get it.
Not much later the group hears a distant howl. It is quickly followed by a similar howl from another direction. Nave starts trembling.
Nave: This isn't good.
snorsorbet: Yes, we can hear that.
Bamboori: Wolves. A pack of wolves must be at home here.
A third howl emerges, this time from behind the group. Bamboori advises to keep walking steadily, hopefully exiting the woods soon. The fourth howl prompts Nave to sigh and plug his earholes. As the group raises the velocity of its steps, the frequency of howls increases with a crescendo to a fulminating forte with their distance gradually declining, turning the musical ambience of the natural forest environment into a blood-curling howling concert.
Bamboori: I'm not seeing any close way out of these woods!
Drahcir: What do we do?
Bamboori: First of all we should keep calm! Wild animals do not react considerate to agitation!
Blue Phoenix takes a look around. At this location the woods are too dense to make out its end in any direction. A little ways to their right he sees a little hill with an overhanging rock, providing something like a natural mini-cave as a possible hiding spot or shelter. To his left there's a small glade with a relatively large tree trunk in its center. And straight on, the woods never end.

Suggesting to head towards the cave so that nothing can ambush us from the back.

...Except for what's in the cave already?
Nah, as long as they're animals, we should be safe if we keep fire handy. Luckily, I do that pretty well.

The mini-cave is likely to be a wolf den; I'd avoid it.
Fire should work well as SirFrog says. Maybe we should press on through the woods.
