Eh, its 1 gold per person. We should eat a hearty meal in preparation for quests.

The group asks for a couple of specific dishes, then orders. All in all they spend 8 gold coins, drinks included. As Hannah leaves back into what seems to be the kitchen, Phil hops onto the table and slowly approaches Ian.
Ian: Guess the cat's taken something of a liking to me, eh? snorsorbet: I suspect Phil is slowly getting aware of your condition regarding cats and is just having a good time messing with you. Phil: Meow! Ian: Please, get him off the table, and especially away from me. snorsorbet reaches for Phil, who instinctively dodges and jumps on Simon's shoulder. Blue Phoenix: So. I counted our total money, we're one flat of a hundred. That really is not much, hardly enough to buy a whole new set of equipment, let alone desert survival gear. Drahcir: I suppose we're going to need to earn some money, then. Maybe there's something we could do? An Adventure House? SirFrog: In JG Rime? I doubt it. Ian: So what about... 'borrowing' the stuff we need? Bamboori: ...you're not suggesting theft now, are you? Ian: *shrugs* We're on a quest to save the world and this is for their well-being. Not like they'd believe us if we told them. Drahcir: It's scum like you that makes this world a sad place. Ian decides to ignore Drahcir's last comment and instead examines his unusually long fingernails. A little while later food is served and the group enjoys their meal. [Party is fully healed.] The tavern becomes emptier as time passes, and soon, all the guests save for one drunkard at the bar have left. Hannah: Alright, I've got a little time to spare now, guys. How may I help? Nave: First of all, the food was delicious. Definitely worthy of such a beautiful sight as yourself, mylady. SirFrog: *thrusts his elbow into Nave's rips* What the heck? Hannah: Why, thank you! But I'm not the only one to cook, my brothers help out as well. SirFrog: *clears throat* So, what my friend here meant to say, well... Blue Phoenix: If you could perhaps tell us a few things... |--4---3---2---1--| |--1---2---3---4--| a Ian Nav Blu Dra : : --- --- --- --- a b Bam Sir Sim sno : : --- --- --- --- b c --- --- Phi Ste : : --- --- --- --- c |-----------------| |-----------------| Stats (Click to View) Book of Knowledge World Map (Hints of Interest: - Stat points left: Phil Skill points left: Phil, Simon, Steiner) It's midday. We could find out exactly which village/town we went to on world map, and/or...
ask why the town is so quiet (indirectly finding out if there's a quest we can do). ~Spy_The_Man1993~ Steiner v3.00 (outdated), Challenge Stage v1.51 Luigi's Easier Data-Editor, A-Man's Sprite Mirrorer Working on the LF2 Rebalance mod. Avatar styled by: prince_freeza Thanks given by: Bamboori

Steiner: Could you maybe tell us where approximately this village is located? Or what kind of landmarks are near?
Hannah: Well, um, sure. JG Rime is the last village before the Emerald Deserts, more precisely at its south end. SirFrog: Emerald Deserts? It feels a bit unusual to name a desert like that. Hannah: It used to be the Emerald Plains long ago. It was a true wonder of nature, such beauty of green and fertile lands. There were a lot of farms covering the whole plains. Many of the farmers' houses still stand to this day, but they're abandoned. It is hard to pinpoint exactly what caused these lands to dry out like that and turn into a huge desert. Blue Phoenix: Um, ok. Say, you just mentioned a south end... are you implying the desert is to the north of this village? Hannah: Technically to the northwest, but yes. Blue Phoenix: That's interesting. Steiner: Another question. When we came into the village, it seemed like a ghost town. Was this just coincidence, or is there a reason for that? Hannah: Well, the people who live here have adjusted to silent lives. Noise really disturbs the minds, therefore hardly anybody strolls in the streets just for the heck of it. Plus, the streets get really empty during midday, when every family either cooks at home or comes to my tavern. Nave: So it's not unusual that we haven't met a single soul on the streets? Hannah: Not at all. Many of the people here are real mind gamers and like spending their time at home or at friends' with astronomical amounts of chess games, others simply like to challenge each other with a few mathematical riddles. It's really strange, but it almost seems like this town is a magnet for smart folk. Nave: And what about you, mylady? Do you enjoy chess games? Hannah: Well... to be honest, I'm more of a tavern lady than anything else. My father was an enthusiastic chess master though, but I never got the hang of it. Quite frankly, it also didn't interest me. Ian: Pardon the interruption, but our time is short and valuable. Could you tell us whether somebody in the village is offering a job for money? We are in dire need of funds. Hannah: I wouldn't know. Maybe ask Brady or Matt, the owner of the desert store. |--4---3---2---1--| |--1---2---3---4--| a Ian Nav Blu Dra : : --- --- --- --- a b Bam Sir Sim sno : : --- --- --- --- b c --- --- Phi Ste : : --- --- --- --- c |-----------------| |-----------------| Stats (Click to View) Book of Knowledge World Map (Hints of Interest: - Stat points left: Phil Skill points left: Phil, Simon, Steiner) It's midday. The group asks Hannah for the desert store's location, gives her their thanks and then proceeds to leave the tavern. The desert store is just a couple more houses behind the tavern. As they try to enter, Bamboori notices a little note that was nailed onto the wooden door.
"Sorry, closed Family emergency Back in a couple of days Signed, Matt" SirFrog: Now this is extremely convenient. snorsorbet: There's no way we're going to survive without bringing proper rations of water in waterskins. Drahcir: Well, maybe we can get those elsewhere too. |--4---3---2---1--| |--1---2---3---4--| a Ian Nav Blu Dra : : --- --- --- --- a b Bam Sir Sim sno : : --- --- --- --- b c --- --- Phi Ste : : --- --- --- --- c |-----------------| |-----------------| Stats (Click to View) Book of Knowledge World Map (Hints of Interest: - Stat points left: Phil Skill points left: Phil, Simon, Steiner) It's midday. lets look for brady then and ask him if he knows anything about the why the shop is closed or if he has any other job for us.

damn, bamboori is so on point with this, I'll just have to agree and follow!
(snor too)
They decide to head back to the blacksmith Brady and ask him whether he knows about Matt's exact whereabouts.
Brady: Matt? Isn't he at his store? SirFrog: No... the store is closed, and a note said he's out on a family emergency and will return in a couple of days. Brady: This is strange. I've heard nothing of such. And... if I'm not mistaken, Matt doesn't really have much of a family. Blue Phoenix: Excuse me? Brady: If I may propose going there now together, I have a dark presumption. The group follows Brady as they march through the village, picking Hannah up on the way. Hannah: Matt is not married. His only family used to be a young niece of fifteen years. She passed away last summer during a heavy storm. Her parents both died longer ago, shortly after her birth. Brady: Not quite. The niece technically didn't pass away, she simply disappeared during a visit to her best friend. Bamboori: I don't understand. Brady: Hold on. They reach the desert store, the note still hanging where it's been hanging before. Brady steps up to the door and tries to open it. Then he bashes his fist on the door several times. Brady: Matt! You there? No answer. Brady: Matt's niece, Eleana, was best friends with a farmer's daughter, who lived on a farm quite at the edge of the Rinstar Highlands, which are to the east. She would go visit the farm quite often in the warmer months, as there aren't many other young people in JG Rime and she didn't click with any of them. Eleana was also quite fond of horses, and that farm had lots of them. Hannah: One day last summer Eleana would again leave JG Rime to visit them, but shortly thereafter, a heavy thunderstorm hit these lands. It kept raining for days, too. After the rain had subsided, Matt started asking around whether we'd seen her niece. It was not unusual that she would stay with the farmer's family for a couple of days, but this time it was different. She didn't come home for one more week, and then Matt decided to leave and visit the farm himself. He came back two days later, claiming that Eleana had never been to the farm the preceding two months. Brady: That was really hard on him. We organized a search party and retraced her route to the farm, but there was no sign of her. Eventually, we had to give up. Matt however wouldn't calm down for months, became more aggressive and started drinking excessively, all while shouting to himself that he needed to go out and find his niece. Luckily, after these months passed, he came to accept his fate and calmed down. Hannah: This looks like he had a relapse and went out looking for her, but strangely without telling anybody. He's had breakfast at my tavern this morning still, and he didn't seem any different than usual. Still, I wonder whether he actually hopes to find her alive, after all this time... Nave: Would it be possible that we still enter the store to get some supplies? We're really in urgent need of some of his goods... Brady: I'm afraid only Matt bears the key to the store. And even if we could get in, I'm not sure he'd want somebody else to sell his stuff... Nave: But it's not like we're going to steal anything! We're going to pay normally! Hannah: If you really want some items from the store, maybe you could help us find Matt. We'd be thankful if you could bring him back, and perhaps persuade him to cut some of the prices for you. Blue Phoenix: Hm, we're going to have to consider and discuss it first. Excuse us, please. The group does a couple of steps away from the desert store. Blue Phoenix: What do you guys think? Is this worth our time and effort? snorsorbet: All I know is we need waterskins. I'm open to any ideas on how to get any, if not like this. Suddenly, Hannah approaches the group with the note in her hand. Hannah: I'm sorry to interrupt. But I just noticed something. Drahcir: Yes? Hannah: This... doesn't look like Matt's handwriting. I'm not sure because I don't care much about other people's handwritings, but this really doesn't look familiar. Blue Phoenix: Can Brady confirm that? Hannah shakes her head. Blue Phoenix: So do you think he might have been kidnapped and a false note left to divert suspicion? Hannah: I don't know what to think, honestly. But as I said, this morning he was at my tavern, and he didn't behave unusual in any way. Blue Phoenix: Alright, we'll look into it. Hannah and Brady give the group their thanks and leave. SirFrog: So, what now? Your Quest Logbook has been updated.
