I guess you're looking for the option called "transparency". In case you're not using MS Paint (which doesn't support transparency altogether (unless they overhauled it in the latest Windows-release (which I doubt (and I do like to set parentheses (no really))))), try to select the background color and delete it (as for photoshop, make sure the transparency is not locked. In the layers-palette, ensure that the layer you're working on doesn't have this little locked symbol. In case you work with a different program, you might want to google for the solution). If a (usually) checkerboard-pattern shows up, that'll be transparent. Just save it as PNG (or GIF for animations) and it'll remain transparent.

and yeah, i facepalmed when i saw bat tamer's replies...
back to the transparency thing, the only programs i have is photofiltre and the old version of paint(windows xp). i tried the transparency in photofiltre, and it frigging say

my answer: FUDGE NO

Darn right, ain't nobody mess with the colors. Ain't nobody.
You might want to give Paint.NET or GIMP a shot as they're both free and don't have such limitations. I personally prefer Paint.NET over GIMP, but then again, I haven't used either for years, so I don't know how much they've changed by now.

exams been giving a headache this month, so i thought i would try something i never done before to take a break/relax.
that is when i thought about learning to sprite
here is my first attempt to sprite something, not c&p or mix parts of original characters

i get the template in 1 from davis standing and started to color up. i had a lot of problem with the hair and face, but then i manage to make 2 there.
the face was too davis for me and i edited it to 3. critics/suggestions needed

2 questions What Program Did u use to draw these?
And Did you use mouse or tablet? (like other Spriters do)

Also, I like the guy in red shirt sprite, the hair shading and face details came out really nice you should have put more effort in the rest of the body the clothes shading is way too simple now.

As much as I agree with the statement above Nyamaiku, if you were spriting to create a character, I'd say you've hit LF2 style dead on the head and by repeating what you've done could make an LF2 character that looks far more similar to Marti's original work than most of us would produce (some people, needless to say who as we all know them, produce very high quality sprites that tend to shout out that it's their stylized version).

I have to say, you've done really well, and if you're spriting for spritings sake, look at folds and clothes tutorials online, if you're spriting to eventually create an LF2 character out of it, keep going and don't change what you're doing!

It's very nice to look at your work.

Im in the army camp now. and am using a phone to answer. i only get to visit the forum now and then.
I used photofiltre and my trusty mouse for spriting.
also, i tried copying the lf2 style of spriting.
