This new system sounds interesting, although I don't see why alectric couldn't just post the all the sprite entries himself?
That said, this round's a little lacking in entries so far, though maybe the theme has something to do with it. Its not bad per se, but somehow I'm not getting the right mood for it. will probably pass on this one unless something snaps up at me later.
And so far I can't figure out whose sprites those are, lol.
The blue hunter with the pistol looks like it might be Psychopixel's, but it doesn't look up to mark compared to his usual stuff. wierd. Someone else emulating him perhaps?

1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

prevents double/multi posting and alectric collecting post counts that dont belong to him - also forces everyone to actually post here and voice their thoughts

^ hmmm this kinda looks like Gad's...not sure though...u may even have done it :P
even though it is hunter the theme can quite attract any sprite as long as it fits along the theme...i mean it was very vague
but it don't matter, hopefully i'll get one in D:

Ladies and mentlegen,
welcome in ye olden halls of contests, where spriters from all around the world gather in order to prove their skills in their métier. I am proud to announce that another entry has arrived, from somebody we all know. I present to you:
Seriously, I have not the slightest idea... shading reminds me of freeza while the proportions look timme-like. That's at least my thoughts.
Edit: anybody else that feels reminded of mafia? :p

Hmm.. looks more like Betit to me. Not quite Apoc yet, unless he's on a bad run.
It has all the characteristics of betit's sprite:
- good use of 2-tone hard edge shading
- laziness in not refining edges on shadows
- a decent sense for making elaborate sprites, abit like chishio in that respect. (but chishio uses much softer shading methods.)
Just look at Kusari and it all clicks together.
So I'd say its either Betit or some stupidly ingenious imitation that copied even the flaws of betit's style.
@Yinyin:
edit button!
But I guess it works well in forcing people to post their comments and keep the thread active.
