Your post is giving me cancer. If people don’t want to participate, they won’t, nobody's forcing them. If you want out, pm me and I’ll cross you out. Or are you planning to win this competition and participate from principle because of your unprecedented genius?

I think the themes are a bit too restrictive... and this will be a bit boring if we repeat four themes over and over. Maybe spriters who have to 'fight' can agree to do a certain theme via PM?

Well, I decided to post my thoughts here.

These points are for consideration of themes ( Am not going to give any particular them cause i am not so good at selecting it)

1) Spriters have to be judged on the basis of versatility . So, each theme should differ from the other.

3)Necessary Ideas of theme should be given. So, it is not hard to recognise how the chars in the theme looks like.

Your concerns for the themes are a little incomprehensible. It seems to me that you think that the themes will repeat, but in reality after choosing one for one of the rounds, it’ll be crossed out and only those which haven’t been used yet will remain, so there won’t be any repeats. Nevertheless, you can suggest the themes via pm, and I’ll see, if they have any weight to them. As for your “certain theme via PM” idea, it will be too chaotic, because people have different tastes and like different flavors and won’t easily back down from what they like/suggest. It’ll spawn hate and confusion, so I don’t think it’ll work.

I hope that answers Me'n'Mine's questions too, because they’re like a repeat of Apoc’s.

EDIT: Historical heroes theme was replaced by face picture theme, because I couldn’t find any examples for the former.

Octa-Finals Theme: HUMOR
To sprite a funny character, you have to make him look funny, act eccentric – if it’s an animation – and/or get him a prop. Draw him a ridiculous body, face or pose, make him wear funny clothes, get him a funny hairdo, make him act like a clown riding on a pink fluffy elephant. If you’re doing a short gif, set it in unfamiliar setting with unexpected characters (hint: original characters, though not necessarily) and farce a surreal black comedy with misunderstandings and puns. You can also do a mock parody of a real LFE or 13thzone members (Jon, I’ve got my eye on you), make a satirical spoof of someone’s original character’s flaws, use irony against seriousness, and most importantly – have fun. Also remember: no pain, no gain. And pain is funny. That’s it, you have your orders, Sirs. Let the best spriter win!

Submit your sprites directly here into this thread, because I think it should keep others motivated after seeing how their opponents are faring. On the other hand, I suggest that you work on your sprite for at least three days, trying to improve it and having no regrets about the entries. Good luck to all.

The same theme for all groups. The group determines how you progress further, if you win. See the spoiler under “Updated Tournament Chart”.

Honestly, I don't really like where this is heading, and I'm not saying it only because I don't like this theme (Alectric tried to use it as theme for the Unnoficial Sprite Contest and there were almost no entries at all), I thought that every fight was gonna have his own theme. Or atleast a different subcategory of a general theme.

I would like themes to be something like this:
*Already created char: Self explanatory. Subcategories can be historical, comic, movies, games... Examples:
-Capcom Character.
-Rendition of Cleopatra.
*Animals/Creatures/Monsters: Self explanatory. Subcategories can be real or fantasy; or species, etc
-Disgusting monster.
-Felines.
*Rule 63: Change the gender of an already created char. Examples:
-Male Jan.
-Female Thor.
*Action sprite: Create a char doing a certain action. Subcategories are special attacks or actions.
-Running animation.
-Yoga pose.
*Fashion/Design: Create a char using certain type of clothes/with a limited coluour palette. Examples:
-Characters with skirt.
-Every cloth piece must be yellow.

Themes you proposed could be included in those. There would be just one theme for each round, but also one subcategory for each battle. I think that's a little more exciting.

I agree, the comedy theme probably was too difficult.

The sub-themes shouldn't be necessary until like round of 4 or something though, if at all. I'm fine with the theme being global.
