I think that what the rep thing is showing us is wrong

I don't know how to explain this but I've seen this happen

For example a new guy joins, and starts to cheap post without thinking.
Immideatly he gets alot of negative (and neutral) reps "Think before posting, not the other way".
Later all the negative reps change to positive "Starting to behave a little better"
Suddenly this guy, who had a negative total reputation, has a really high reputation

imo a guy who has just learned the rules should not have that high rep...
Isn't this supposed to be by default? I mean every new guy should read and know the rules.
Do you get reps for reading the rules?

Remove the system...it's false

What is the system's goal ? To push members to help others by replying? to post good creations/projects/ideas? so that others give reps?
or it is a better way to thank people besides of replying "thanks", which is considered as spam. Unfortunately our giving thanks can be worthless if people are giving too many reps.

Believe reputation has positive purposes. At least, if people are not comparing someone to another member by their 'reputation' points, I'm not annoyed :) . Just, if one's judgement on a member is affected with that 'reputation' points, I don't like it :P . It's about how people uses/sees the reputation system for me.

Besides, it might be unfair to some people who were interested in gathering reputation by answering others' questions or solving their problems if we just remove the system like that. That system is a facility, which we are not required to use, so I can't really agree to remove that.

What's the point of the rep system?
It's what it sounds like: your reputation, just like in real life, but very much simplified.
So basicly if someone is nice to you, you'll be nice to them - if some one gives you a rep+, wouldn't it be normal to rep+ the other one?
But this leads to "there you go, please rep+ me back", which is bad...

As an addition to my previous post, I'd like to complain about the user titles.
Cause a few quite new members had this user titel "helpful member" or "experienced member" (by now they might already be like unique members or sth)
But none of them was helpful or experienced, instead annoying and noobish even though (like stated in my previous post) "starting to behave a little better"
Imo a the amount of posts does not determine how experienced or old/new a member is.

and I myself am also an "experienced member", which I totally agree with.

^ so in other words you mean that the automatic titles given by the system are inappropriate?
might give some alternatives then, plz.

the reputation-system as I saw it before lfe crushed my dreams with a mighty bang, was that to give a reputation is equal to give a review on somebody for his overall performance in the forums. This ofc can change maybe in months because that certain member improved his english or suddenly found the switch to unlock the great powers of his brain, but not because that member suddenly posts "omfg I love bp's manliness" thus getting a -rep by Marshall saying "BP is not as smexy as me though" (which would be kinda weird in another way too but meh)
I know bad examples but I think you get what I mean.

edit: @Marshall: wow exactly 2 hours after my post you modedit it.. this CAN'T BE HAPPENING!

Marshall edited this post 07-03-2011 06:43 PM because:
yeah... bad example indeed. My memory tells me that I gave BP a +2 for his rep because he's "almost as smexy as me"

This remind me that suggestion that I made some months ago: http://www.lf-empire.de/forum/showthread.php?tid=6165

In fact here i didn't talked about "Helpful" and "experienced",because in that time members with these custom titles really deserved them.

^i don't think that changes anything. AS I don't see why a member with many posts is outstanding or unique, he might be just a blabbermouth.

I think the titles shouldn't be bound to the number of posts. Or if it is still like that it should be categorized somehow like this:
new guy->stupid spammer->even more stupid spammer
new guy->learned the rules->helpful->exemplary

NO

Word "stupid" will scare newcomers! Also we are not forum which offence,we are a Little Fighter Forum. Also logically
Rule 3: Etiquette say not to offence others! If forum itself offence, what members would do?!

wiro Wrote:empirefantasy is a good example
Oh come on.Then report my posts and they will be disposaled.

@phil
well, I think that spammers's spamming posts should be split a few more,so they don't have the responsibility to become unique member. Also until they go "outstanding",after all that time they will not be spammer anymore.

*sigh* I don't actually mean spam.. I mean rather normal posts barely on the limit of not being spam.. I don't see the point why somebody is outstanding if he posts alot of posts. So I agree on wiro with that, either that or we make very different names for a post level like
"I'm new here" or "I know how to post" or "I post regularly" just in another form or maybe even just like that. Idk really I am a bit uncreative. First way as said by Wiro would involve too much work, so it is less likely to happen, ofc BP is always up to surprises these days. I actually can't imagine how much you have to hack into the mybb system software to change that or if there is a plugin for that.
Prove me wrong if you know something about it and provide a link plz.
