The Little Fighter Wiki
#21
That would be nice :D .
My dream is that every move has its own page explaining specific cases and all, but that's just dreams for now, since there has not been enough amount of contributions to this Wiki (and to be honest I were quite inactive the last few days. But now I'll use these days because I have no school until Monday!)

I think it's important to enhance the home page as well. I'll learn some from the good wiki's of other games on how to make it looks more attracting :P .

EDIT:
Oh, and it's nice to see someone started John's page :D .
I'm writing Firen.

Too much. Either the reader plays LF2, and thus already knows what it looks like, or can open up LF2 and find out whenever they need to. Animated GIFs are heavy, both visually (cause they play automatically) and bandwidth-wise.

Extending the thought of that second sentence, do we really need an English description per special move? Does the reader really need to be told that "Dennis charges up a projectile that will chase the opponents and fly away after a while", or that "Woody quickly flips backward"? Like I said, if they don't already know, they'll have much more fun just opening up LF2 and trying it out. IMO the only relevant information is the numbers (damage, speed (this term is ambiguous btw), duration, etc.). Basically I think we should just have a "Stats" table at the top, whose columns are Speed (ambiguous! call it "startup time"?), Damage, Horizontal Range, Vertical Range, Depth Range, etc. and whose rows are the special moves, Running Attack, Normal Punch, etc. Ok, maybe I'm simplifying and some moves really do deserve to be described by more than just numbers, so throw in a Notes column.

Btw, "super punch" is more standard than "last punch", as the google search site:lf-empire.de "super punch" ("about" 1830 results) vs site:lf-empire.de "last punch" (6 results) reveals. I'm in favour of "super" because it's less of a common parlance, but not strongly in favour.

Also, the "Overview" sections? What's the point of those again? Wikipedia puts its "overview" text before the table of contents, I think that works.

I know I really haven't contributed much, but my last exam is on April 25 and after that I'll contribute much more, and actually practice as I preach (unless you all hate the above ideas).

Hmm. About the overview section, I think it's pretty good since it gives the general information about the thing the page is going to explain about. But, I don't have an idea how to make it above the contents table because the table is just created automatically when you use headers :P and it's always placed on top. I think it's quite good though for now.

I write the number of frames (for example Deep's jump attack = 2 frames) based on how many frames needed to deal the damage (like zort said with startup speed). I want to note that if the data says 'wait: 2', it actually takes 3 frames (wait: 0 still takes 1 frame because else you won't see anything) :P . So if there are 2 frames before the damage in the data, one with 'wait: 2' and another with 'wait: 3', the move will take 7 frames before the damage comes.

About the gif files, yeah, after thinking again, you're right. We don't need the gif files for things that players will obviously find out themselves. Maybe it's still a good idea to upload the gif files and give links to them when needed, in case some beginners may be confused which move we are talking about.

The explanation on each move seems nice for me though, rather than a table, because it often needs pretty long explanation. But table is a good idea too to keep it short.

About a page for every special move, however, there maybe some things that people may have not realized about the moves. Dennis' energy blast, for example, can be used in DoP combo or to kill someone lying in a distance with low HP in stage mode. The page will also give information on the projectile's speed and damage. It'll be a small page but may be worth it, but that is, again, for later :P since many important pages are still empty.

BTW, can anyone convert the avi files to gif files please so that we can give a demonstration on them?

Download Format Factory (I downloaded it here)
It is an awesome software that can convert most of the popular video, image and music/sound formats into various file formats. The converting process is faster than many other converter (and being able to convert into MP4 is a very awesome feature for YouTubers like meh XD small size without reducing quality).
You can also go to the output settings if needed. Sometimes the default setting reduce the quality in order to reduce the output size, but it's configurable in an understandable settings interface.

Hey, can we not post stuff about DCing? Or should we have a different wiki on that basis?
(Please dont pirate my idea.)

I think we shouldn't post DC-ing stuffs, but we can make pages about the game mechanics related to the dat files. For example, falling, states, etc because they can help explaining many other stuffs in the original LF2.

btw
Do not write something like "these are as far as we know.". Anyway, we want to act like we know everything xD . More importantly, when we are using the word 'we' then we are representing the whole community. It's better without that phrase because it is written above that 'these are some examples', so obviously not all, and we can't afford to list all in that page anyway :P .

Lately, I have been noticing that a lot of our wikis pages are left unwikified. Wikify means adding relevant information from resouces and adding links and images to clear the doubts of the readers.
Because of that, I started the DoP page. I will be starting the heal page too

That's just what I was going to do :D .
I will write some more details on Deep's special moves now though. Since there is not much edits I am definitely watching everything that happened in the wiki, and sure there is a lot of links to unavailable pages besides of those listed on the home page. While writing about characters will eventually get boring after writing much about other characters, writing the other things can be fun :D and as useful for the wiki.

Btw I moved the bot behaviors from Stage Mode into a new page. It can be a really exciting thing to learn!! It is still my first guess on the bot's behavior (http://littlefightertwo.wikia.com/wiki/Bot_Behavior), so if you find anything wrong please leave a comment or tell me anyhow :P .
