Hari's scribbles

i hope it won't be admitted as a spam.

guys, can i ask you about something? i would like improve my spriting (it's obviously - as everybody) and my question is about 3 colour of shading. so far i used only 2 colours. so here is my question: how to properly use this "third" colour? when we use 2 colours firstly have to draw sprite by darker colour then shade it by lighter.
where is place for this "third" colour? is it "medium" tone (between darker and lighter) - like this:

or is it this more darker colour - like this:

so, could you explain me order of shading with 3 colours? darker-medium-lighter, or maybe darker-lighter-medium? and probably most important question: if 3 colours are important in making hq sprites?

I suggest you better post as another thread.
Well, when i am using third color.
Darker(3rd color)- to shade places where is darkest, like feet, coat, arm pinch(between arm and upper body.
Lighter(3rd color)-for light parts, like some pattern have those lights, vegeta outfit, armor, hair.
Light source reflected places.
Wow, just dayz ago you say you know much.

First of all:
I'd suggest you to know my opinion about 3-color shading:
http://www.lf-empire.de/forum/thread-7503.html <- Look here
• It's useless in other causes.

The saturation sense it's the answer for your question.
For example mine contrast between light and dark is clearly smaller than Apoc's or DH's one.
It's the thing you have to reveal by yourself and that also creates a part of your style.
Oh how artistic I am.

I would say, objects has colors blue, red, green, light blue, etc.
Parts behind the light needs to be dark, because there is not light on it.
Parts directly in front of the light are very lighter because there is a lot of light in it and light is white.

Use logic, don't learn mechanic. also look in tut forum, there are a lot tutorials about shading and way to do it.

depending on what you are coloring you can use many methods to color.
[Image: pant1.png]this is the standard method
t[Image: pant2.png] this one should only be used on mechas (sharp objects) or if there´s a strong lightsource
[Image: pant3.png] thats my own style to color, using 3-4 colors to create many colors. it takes more time but it looks more realistic. sometimes i take a 2nd basic color, like blue+green.

even if you´re trying to color like me (as example) you cant be like me, everyone should find his own style. first look for methods you like, but not copy it, instead try to do it with your own way.
my latest sprites was made with method 3, click sig to see.

if my sprites are HD:
NO, for my mecha i did nothing but colored 1basic color+shading (using black or white.)

i didn't have any good idea, and still don't have any for next sprite. great, ofc when i have some time, i can't make anything good. if someone have more original idea, than making char from anime, or game - i'd be glad for some proposition.

great sprite, but he seems to be very small so it's hard to see detail

yeah, i knew someting is wrong with him after resizing but i didn't knew what exactly - he's too thin. btw: i didn't wanna show this, cause it also weak, but i thought that maybe try do it again, so my question is: better make dragon similar to this, or "real" one?
ofc this time i'll try make better pose and details, like feet (yeah feet really suck), teeth, wings... etc.
