I absolutely agree. I always think of that when doing a new sprite. But that sprite was just another step in my spriting skills.

His eyes need to be red and one eye is even not visible. His shoes need to be changed into boots ( reference)
Need contrast on face.

Doesnt have to be all stuff same as reference.
Reference is just source of idea, and if you dont like one you dont have to add it into sprite. Its his choice.

The reference colours made me wanna do him. However i changed some things from it.

This is probably the last sprite that i will make for this month. I got my final exams coming so it's time to study. So yeah, wish me luck!

i dont see anything bad in him however i also dont see something really unique and special (a guy standing in the normal standing pose)
thats why maybe a weapon can take it to the next level
u did a good job with him..

good but try make the sword better by adding lights on it and make it feel like its 3d and not plate
also i would prefer having more contrast between the sword and the other parts ,lighter like the hood
