Hero Fighter - Portraits

Hello LF2 community!

I am a new member here at LFE, pleasure to meet you all (I hope ^.^). I've always been a huge admirer of the PC games LF2 and HF, made by Marti Wong.

As you can see by this topic's title, I'm not here to talk about LF2 (sorry), but rather about HF. I am aware of HFE's existence, but the forum is so inactive, unfortunately, that I see very few chances of getting feedback on this subject there.


Alright, here's the deal:

Hero Fighter is a good game, and it can become even better, but it needs support! Mr. Marti cannot do everything by himself, we must help him in all possible ways !

I believe that fanart is a way of showing support, and also helps to advertise the game. I am planning on doing a HF guide program (similar to the LF2 guide v1.9c that comes with the LF2 Starter-kit), and it would help me a lot to have the portraits of the HF characters, which Marti didn't do. But more than helping me, it would help anyone who wishes to use them in any kind of HF project.

The kind of portraits that I'm looking for are exactly like the LF2 portraits:

And to give you an idea about the HF style (which is very similar to LF2), here are some portraits that Marti made long time ago, but did not finish:

Now, here is what I'd like to ask from you, the LF2 community. Is anyone out there who is willing to draw the portraits of the playable HF characters (including the premium)? If not, is there anyone who knows someone influential here who could start a contest on this subject?

I could give it a try to sketch them (with pencil) then someone who can use photoshop (MangaD thats you) could modify them. Though it'll be hard for me to stick with this particular style.... Marti's style.... Also there are many of guys here at LFE who can do it... i believe that the guy who is doing the HF origins comic is able to do these sketches as well.... anyways i'll try and if its succcessful i'll tell u!

No, its not. It's very limited. I just don't get why didn't he bring lf2 fighting system to this game. 0 creative combos avaible.
Graphics look kinda cheap (lf2 had better stuff), characters are boring and predictable, story is simple, stage is annoying and not entertaining. Potential betrayed.
And, yes, it is my opinion, anybody can have his own.

Yes you can... have your own opinion... you can also judge... you can also be narrow-minded as well... no offense.
I'll tell you this... LF2 is just awesome, but we have to remember that HF is the next level of LF... maybe you dont see that now.... maybe even i cant... but it is great in many ways....
Also, combos?! Wow, didnt see that coming too.In HF you can do more things than LF (you will tell me know,'' where are the op moves?''... well HF its not done yet ...we're still waiting for Demon Lord... Eason transformed...etc),Story...is awesome... characters-- great graphics... Ok ok i admit LF2 and the other mods are better but you presented HF like Marti's failure...XD

1. I think it's a great waste to make these faces just for the weird guide thing. The job takes some time.
2. I don't know anybody who would spend more time than 5 minutes on an lf2 guide. Why would it be worth to create HF guide.
3. Who needs a guide for HF, there are like 2 moves for each character and what more?
4. If HF is so popular and worth a guide like this why can't you group up fans from HF? I don't see a purpose with comming on here.

Well the most HF funs would spend much time doing projects for HF if they could. MangaD just asked help...if you dont want to help him, thats ok...

Just want to point out that a guide is unnecessary because Marti made an official moves/controls list. Players can figure out the rest themselves by playing, this is more of a simple fanart.

actualy no if you were talking about its quality but if you are talking about characters sprite parts which is being over-used then yes.


HF gameplay somehow boring, I agree but its one man team. Marti needed more ideas, well there are official forums but he still didnt asked people for ideas. Atleast thats what I know.

Have you ever seen most of HF fans? No offense, fans, but truth must be told.
Also, MangaD is looking for people who are realy able to do this.

Thanks for checking my DA. I did those long time ago though. And I'm not very good with digital art, besides taking a long time to do it. I believe there are people here who are much better than me and can do this job much faster than me.

Truth is... I don't fancy that style much. And I would like to see a different style (more close to Marti's).
Also, Wade made some characters with a very wacky expression... Just look at Iczzy. xD

Alright Gad, let's chat a bit.

First and foremost, you are ridiculing yourself if you call my request "exploitation". I'm not forcing anyone to do anything.
I'm merely asking if there is anyone within the LF2 community who has the skills and the will to do the job. The reward? Maybe helping a game that they like to "sustain" is rewarding enough, as fanart leads to more advertisement which then leads to more players. There are many artists who are looking for new requests actually, I just need to find them. And if they happen to like Hero Fighter, then I've got good chances!

If you don't like Hero Fighter, you shouldn't have opened this thread in the first place. You are just being importunate.

Hero Fighter is much better than LF2 in terms of Animation, Flexibility and Network Mode. But it is an unfinished game, of course there are many Bugs, Unbalance, and lack of new features to be expected. Worse than this, Marti kinda rushed the game. But if you take a look into v0.1 and then take a look into v0.7, you'll see a big difference and improvement. The game can improve and will improve. The more support it gets, the better chances it has.

I have to disagree with your review on the game.

1. "0 creative combos avaible." -> You clearly didn't play the game. Go sell your snake oil elsewhere.
2. "Graphics look kinda cheap (lf2 had better stuff)" -> Don't even compare, lol. You want to compare sprites with models? O_o Maybe you could say that LF2 has a better style (which I agree), but don't even compare the graphic quality... (though it can improve, that's true).
3. "characters are boring and predictable" -> Maybe they are, in your hands.
4. "story is simple, stage is annoying and not entertaining" -> This can be discussed, though I don't see why LF2 stages are better...

5. "Potential betrayed." -> True. Hero Fighter has much more potential that is not put to good use.

I think that I indirectly answered you about it being a waste of time, as that depends on the person's interests. Even if the artist is not interested in Hero Fighter, he/she could still be interested on drawing the portraits for self-learning or self-practicing (which is another reason why I am going to do the HF guide, to test my programming skills, and hopefully learn new things).

About Hero Fighter's popularity, the HF facebook group has 10k members. The game reached it's peak of popularity at version 0.65, and started to fall at version 0.7. I believe that many people got disappointed at the game, especially because of the Premium Account feature, among with the rushing of the game... More than that, the official servers were taken down due to Mr. Marti being unable to pay the bills, leaving Network Mode, the core of the game, in a very aggravated state. To put the cherry on the cake, hackers managed to modify Hero Fighter, with the sole purpose of making the premium characters available.

So, yeah, Hero Fighter is facing a crisis. That does not mean the game is s*** and will never become better !
