LF2 Terms and Conditions
#1
When I am bored, I sometimes go over the Terms and Conditions of software I install. And today, I had a look at LF2's:

So apparently, everything we have been doing with LF2 is considered infringing to these terms and conditions?

Discuss.

Isn't that sentence only talking about the source code?
So datachanging and spriting and all that should be allowed, just not all the hex modding.

Kind of funny though, nice find!

Well of course. Except when you copy an already unpacked folder of LF2 onto your system instead of installing it yourself. But I bet everyone has 'agreed' to this at least once already.

But yeah, data changing and sprite editing is not included as this is not messing with the source code of the software. Otherwise the official forum wouldn't have a dedicated sub forum and the game wouldn't have sprites specifically made for you to edit (template character and backgrounds).

So we can ban Silva now for the pirating he has done :P
Seriously though, LF2 mods are obvious edits. People usually get involved in the source to change credits and whatsoever. I am not a lawyer, but I know that something like that can get one into trouble someday. Specially if that one becomes famous or something in the future.

That is a disturbing thought. But nobody has raised a question against this until now. Also, nobody has harmed LF2 or made profits with their modified versions, or tried to steal the credits of the original LF2 (that I know of). I don't think Marti is the kind of person that would sue you for just making a mod (as long as you don't claim to have made everything yourself, put malicious code into it, or attempt to profit with it).

This is just my opinion though, I would like very much to hear what Mr. Wong has to say about this... I need to ease my soul, as I am also modifying the HF Room Server, in order to improve the Network Mode (I don't intend to steal credits or harm the game in any form).

But wasn't LF2 sold to U1 technology? It isn't Marti's and Starsky's property anymore, or is it?
