commission/trade sub forum?
#1
How about we open up a commission/trade forum where people can actually post their have/want status?
(Instead of requests being generally forbidden - it'd be allowed in there)
Maybe I wouldn't mind doing things if I get something offered in return ...

And then everyone can spam that forum with their want everything have nothing offers.

Or have lots and lets see if you got anything that interests me?

:p

Agree with you.
It may also help newbies if they want any request/help for their beginning of LF2 modification. (or something else)

I saw your post in the other thread and wanted to reply there even though it was deleted, lol

And I would agree with you, simply because I don't feel that the rule of no request has been explained properly. And I don't know the main reason myself, apart from the spam it brings (but you can always ignore it?).
That said, how would you imagine the offers? If we ever going to make such a sub-forum, I think there needs to be some transparency with the rules or any description on the possible offers whatsoever. In what kind of offer would you be interested yourself?

All I can think of is money, but I'm just corrupted like that :D

Edit to below:
Yes, that is precisely how I would approach it as well.

i think a thread with a specific template is more than enough
a sub forum might get dead of inactivity/would be just newbies request once in a while but probably with nothing more than that(might not get what they asked also, just a bunch of useless open threads)

so i think a thread is just enough, could be sticy with a template
something like this:

sprites/data: _____

if sprite-
- general explanation:_____
- detailed explanation:______
- amount of sprites/frames or a whole sheet:_____
- other:______

if data-
- general explanation:______
- detailed explanation:_____
- anything else data related(i dont now much about it)
- other:_____

contact(email, sktpe, facebook etc..):______
payment(any thing you offer in return):_____
time(if needed like before a specific date)______
notes(anything else, or things you want the maker to keep in mind):________

now it shouldn't contain more than posts of requests in the thread, if someone want to give the guy what he requested than just send him through anything they wrote in their contact information.

Offers could generally be anything that people are also asking for I guess. I don't think there needs to be any required transparency or extra rules. Everyone has to be careful about who they are trading with and how transparent and upfront they make their own offers (most artists doing online commissions usually have pretty good & elaborate samples of what quality you'll get - so it's up to anyone to do something similar - on both elaborate requests and offers).

That said I personally would be most interested in sprite work (small jobs such as fully shading a set of flat coloured sprites or bigger things like a full sheet) and would offer character design advice (concept iteration/move set ideas etc) or custom data (again in differently sized work chunks such as adjusting all wpoints/all basic frames/a single special move/custom AI or for a bigger task managing a whole character).
I'd also be interested in custom sound effects/voices if anyone has a decent mic or audio editing skills.

Basically what I recently did with pf for Jason off site (except traded work doesn't have to be on the same project).

And yes, paypal is a thing, why not (that's why it says commission/trade).

While offering a template in a sticky thread is a great idea (or better yet a real template like added in project forums recently), a single thread would be way too hard to browse through compared to a sub forum - and a public back and forth to elaborate/discuss details that may not be clear on a single request/offer would probably ensue right in that one thread and create unnecessary moderation work. And a 'dead/inactive' sub forum filled with still valid offers & requests isn't really a bad thing - we already have similar sub forums and they don't do no harm (in fact they are a useful archive and may get activity at any time). Not to mention having a single thread per request/offer allows the poster to update it at any time and bump it in case he can improve his conditions to attract interest. edit: or also close the offer once it's been fulfilled or otherwise not required anymore

Other than that I think we also have way too many stickies in a lot of sub forums - squeezing this one among them would be bad.

It's hard to ignore if it starts clogging up sections that are supposed to be filled with actual productive stuff.

Well it's obvious this needs to be a separate discussion. I figured that the second I clicked the post button.

In fact I'd be willing to spend money to lift the projects I'm eager to start and finish off the ground.

That said you can offer free "trades" too (a bit like these kind of threads).

edit: and you may some (or most times) not be quite sure who to ask per pm - so a public place for that could be convenient.

It Would Be Great To Have A Commission / Trade Sub-Forum
It Will Be Like A Daily Quest Area For Yinyin And Other Professionals :p
Other Will Request And Post Reward :p ( What He Is Telling About Offering In Return ) Sorta Like That
While Others ( mostly Us Who Don't Know 10% Of Anything Of Editing Things Up ) Will Post Their Requests And Get Some Helps Too

Could be arranged. I'm going to tl;dr the thread (primarily to not lose track of everything; please tell me if I forgot anything):
  • Subforum in either LF2 Zone or Off-topic
  • Covered topics: commissions, trades, requests. Essentially, offers and requests.
  • First post should be templated (is that even the right word? Sounds awkward).

As for the first point, I'll need your input what you are most willing to head to. LF2-related or commish/trades in general?

I'd split the topics by thread prefixes, similar to the projects-forum with their [char], [bg], [stage], ...
Opinions?

Making a sticky for the template is less work. Unless the template is so general that it can be applied to any situation in the forum, then I can simply reuse the code for the projects-section. From what I gathered, you prefer the project-like solution. Does anybody have the time/will to write up such a template?

Off-topic to allow anything I'd say (how about renaming that to General btw - off-topic sounds so irrelevant).
In case lf2 threads drown out anything else and prefixes don't help we can always have this type of subform in both sections.
