Ramond's RPG Adventure v2.0
(09-12-2016, 03:24 PM)Ramond Wrote:  "Exiting Rinstar Highlands, Blazing Farmlands ahead"
It's midday. (5:58 PM)
The autumnal sun is brilliantly hovering high in the sky.
"Eleana was on her way to visit her friend on the Rinstar Highlands east of JG Rime when she went missing. If Matt went out to look for her (or whatever is left of her), he would probably be somewhere along the road over there. "

Hmm... lemme check the lore...
Quote:Brady: Matt's niece, Eleana, was best friends with a farmer's daughter, who lived on a farm quite at the edge of the Rinstar Highlands, which are to the east (of JG Rime, the town we left from). She would go visit the farm quite often in the warmer months, as there aren't many other young people in JG Rime and she didn't click with any of them. Eleana was also quite fond of horses, and that farm had lots of them.

Hannah: One day last summer Eleana would again leave JG Rime to visit them, but shortly thereafter, a heavy thunderstorm hit these lands. It kept raining for days, too. After the rain had subsided, Matt started asking around whether we'd seen her niece. It was not unusual that she would stay with the farmer's family for a couple of days, but this time it was different. She didn't come home for one more week, and then Matt decided to leave and visit the farm himself. He came back two days later, claiming that Eleana had never been at the farm the preceding two months.

Brady: That was really hard on him. We organized a search party and retraced her route to the farm, but there was no sign of her. Eventually, we had to give up. Matt however wouldn't calm down for months, became more aggressive and started drinking excessively, all while shouting to himself that he needed to go out and find his niece. Luckily, after these months passed, he came to accept his fate and calmed down.

Hannah: This looks like he had a relapse and went out looking for her, but strangely without telling anybody. He's had breakfast at my tavern this morning still, and he didn't seem any different than usual. Still, I wonder whether he actually hopes to find her alive, after all this time...

Yup. Looks like we're going the wrong way.

Considering its going to be dark, it can't hurt to just head north for an inn and get more information for ourselves right?

I'd say we make a camp here, then come back to check the body like bamboori suggested and then head back to the inn like spytheman suggested

We just rested though, and going back to town would take a while, so maybe we can check out the body first, might be Matt as Bamboori said.

Ramond said on irc that the farm Eleana visits wasn't up north like I suggested because it would be within the borders of Rinstar Highland apparently.

After checking the body, maybe we can head north temporarily to see if there's an inn. If not we can just set up camp around the area and then continue east later on.

Bamboori: Wait... could the body we avoided have been Matt?

Silence. That remark attracted the gazes of Bamboori's friends who now stare at each other, thinking the same thing. Promptly they turn around and head back to where the corpse was located, approaching it cautiously as an ambush still isn't out of the question.

Simon: Guys...
Blue Phoenix: Yep.
Simon: I'm not a pathologist nor a clairvoyant, but I'm pretty sure this isn't Matt.
SirFrog: Yep.

The body in front of them has obvious female features, not least due to parts of its clothing having been ripped open. Various cuts and bruises on the woman's face and upper body suggest physical abuse, most likely a crime of passion perpetrated by a pack of vicious bandits. Nevertheless no belongings can be found on her.

snorsorbet: What... what if she's...
SirFrog: No, she's not. Eleana would be about sixteen today. This woman looks waaaaay older.
Phil: Meow...
Ian: As saddening as this is, we can't afford losing time over a petty little incident like this. Let's go.

Drahcir visibly disagrees with Ian's view and is about to start a rant, but Bamboori quickly drags him aside. The others take the body to a nearby cavity and lay it down, then cover the makeshift grave with some soil. In consideration of the falling night, the group decides to continue following the northwards path to find a place to spend the night at.

After entering what the sign proclaimed to be the "Blazing Farmlands", the group is immediately greeted by a vast flat landscape, which, truth be told, is incredibly boring to behold. Hardly any changes in the scenery - just grass, fields, a few trees and groves, more fields, then a hut in the distance along the road.
It takes them a while to reach it, but once they do, they are surprised by a little welcoming comittee. However, it isn't a friendly one, consisting of a few farmworkers and armed mercenaries.

Mercenary 1: Get lost at once, criminal vermin!
Mercenary 2: Don't you dare draw your weapons. Turn around and leave. Go back to where you came from.

Clarify that we've no interest in causing trouble and are searching for a missing desert store merchant from JG Rime. If they mention the body, say she was already dead when we arrived and its not the person we're looking for.

If they are receptive, ask if we can stay the night.

If they aren't happy at any point during the conversation, we leave and set up camp outside.

I'd agree. We're passing through, are immensely confused, and want no more fighting.

SirFrog: Whoa, calm down. We're not what you make us to be.
Blue Phoenix: We're just passing through.
Mercenary 1: You better be.
SirFrog: In fact, we're looking for someone. A person has gone missing from the nearby village of JG Rime, the desert store owner.
Mercenary 2: ...you don't mean Matt, do you?
Simon: Yeah, exactly, that Matt.
Blue Phoenix: You know him?
Mercenary 2: Well, yeah, made his acquaintance when packing provisions for local desert trips. Especially the desert beyond the Blazing Farmlands.
Nave: Do you perhaps know where he could have gone?
Mercenary 2: I couldn't say, honestly. Haven't met him in a long time. Since we've been hired to protect these farmlands due to the recent increase of bandit raids, there hasn't been a reason for us to go to the desert.
Blue Phoenix: I see.

There's a short, tense span of silence. The ice hasn't been fully broken. Some of the farmers head back to the hut or the fields alongside the hut.

Drahcir: Soo... in fact, we've been looking for an inn of sorts.
Mercenary 1: Then you're out of luck. This neighborhood isn't really traveller-friendly. There's nothing to see here and no main roads to any specific parts of the kingdom, so an inn wouldn't be able to sustain itself. I suppose the closest inn would be in JG Rime. Which, frankly, isn't very far.
SirFrog: Would it be possible for us to spend the night here? A barn would suffice.

The mercenaries examine the group more closely.

Mercenary 1: Well... ultimately, it's up to the farmers to decide. But I wouldn't approve unless your weapons were safely stowed away during that time in order to assure no harm will be done to anyone. Can't trust anybody these days.

Drahcir: I take it our weapons will be safe with you? Please ask the farmers then. We could also help protecting them if needed.
