His clothes is weird, especially in the shape.
And the hair shading is ... you just need to improve on it.
Otherwise it's a great try.
btw his pants is too short.

better with out a shovel. hair looks good btw.
very nice improvement but please try not to make same mistakes i do and that making the eyes so static. make them bigger.

i don't(maybe i do now?) know how to draw eyes so i copied your method of drawing them...

not its not bad both of the sprites are great actually but the hands are too thin in both of them of them and the hair of the first one looks a little too big!
