lf2 - streetfighter style
#1
i had this idea for quite a time, but never came to post it.

the fact:
lf2 is no common beat em up. why? cause you can move way more than in most beat em ups (you can jump higher and even got a wide z-axis), moves cost mana instead of havin difficult inputs, combos are only possible through combinating some special moves (usually).

now what i wanna realise (with a big team i hope :P ) is that we turn lf2 into a more common beat em up :D

this mod would feature:
  • counter systems
  • using the mana as stamina
  • combos through combinig normal punches
  • no z-axis (hopefully some haxxor will help us to remove the button inputs or something similar)
  • bigger chars, thus way higher sprite quality
  • being able to get bet up while lying (not trough normal attacks though)
  • you can lie forever or stay up using a button
  • most moves cost no mana
  • and probably more :D

one thing i yet not know is what to use the stamina for.
also i am worrying that no spriter will be willing to join this project, cause the chars will have to be about hf size.

but ideas, joins and critics are welcome :D

Not wanting to spoil anything from the beginning on but
a) Announcement #3 > #1
b) I guess you won't get a good team together as long as there hasn't been made any progress.

The idea itself is good, but this is maybe 0.1% of the total work. You get the point ;)

Yeah, to disable z-axis you just need to edit all the backgrounds...

That could be interesting, but how do you want to do it? Hex? Advanced DC?

great idea, it'd make lf2 more "fresh"

But staying up should cost some "stamina" points...

If I were you, I'd use it for running Xd

the thing is that running is not really necessary, since the arenas will be kinda small compared to the chars.

oh and to the combo thing: i meant like a(punch)+j(kick)+j(kick)+a(uppercut) :D

why would you want to kill what makes it special?

also if you really wanna do that go use mugen - thatll only require you some spriting and scripting and you are done - no messing with the source - its already made for what you want to do

Quite nice idea. It could make a small revolution in LF...

i already expected something like this :P
the thing is that in lf2 there is way less close combat than in any other beat em up. the main strategy is moving right (and doing the right combos in the right moment). there is nothing what you could really call close combat (from any other beat em up's view). but close combat would suck when you have such small fighters; it would be like ants fighting. thus we got to make the chars bigger. thus we have to limit the walking space (some cowards could tun away else as well).

also, think of it as a tribute to marti wong :D

Henry's gonna disappear... :)

I don't agree. LF2 engine is easy-to-change and it could work...

using more meele skills :P
well, ranged fighters like henry would probably be out of this version.
also, the lf2 engine is just perfect for this, so why not using it? everyone uses mugen :P

i guess i cant change your opinion, but thats fine. i wont force you to support my idea :D
