Minor preview... some sketched animation tests:
"I may devour the five continents, and swallow the three seas, but a body with neither wings, nor hands, nor feet, is powerless against the sky."
My stuff:
| sprites | frozen |
1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

Is this the contender for the longest project in progress award? I thought so.
Okay, I don't know, if anyone feels like me, but... Always a "but". Never a "nevertheless". Okay, okay. I just don't want to say it, because I'll be hated by the cool kids. Here it goes: I tried to like Frozen as a character, bu- HA, got you- nevertheless I couldn't. I tried to do my regular 75 push-ups to get the blood flow pumping and stood on my head for 5 minutes to get the brain gears running, but I couldn't find a real fault to my predicament. Everything's there - the great, if somewhat bland, look, nice face-pic, smooth punching and kicking animations. Aha! MAYBE it's too smooth? Maybe this is too good to be true? I mean, Apoc never did a full playable character, so Sieg took up the job, so I should congratulate him, right? Right? Then why do I feel like being dragged through the dirt in a rodeo while tied to a bull's lower torso while watching how Sieg tortures himself with same old, same old, same..? Something is not right. Maybe, just maybe, Sieg is trying too hard, being the perfectionist that he is. How long did Da Vinchi worked on Mona Lisa till she started to look in all directions like some freakishly pleasant looking spider-head. Four years, a long break, then another 3 years, if my memory serves right. I am, while still perplexed by my emotions towards this project, also still glad that Sieg started it up again. The only thing I wish is that he finds piece while sleeping at night. Because I won't if this isn't finished.

Mmm, LFO Davis was more of a Davis' skin with some new attacks, there is a huge diference between that and a full original char like Frozen, they souldn't be compared at all. But I have some chars in development for HQ in hidden forum :p (the progress has slowed down quite a bit since uni).
@ klodasmone
I might be wrong, but I think you're not just a smart new user. Your writing makes me remember someone else... If I'm wrong, welcome :p
@ Marshall
Haha, same here.
@Below
You're right. I tried to stick to the original design as much as I could, and the char ended up being too powerful. That is the complexity of "final attacks" in LFO from what I remember: giant overpowered energy balls. Some look like dragons or tigers, but it's pretty much the same. Not fancy melee moves or combos :/
I think I remember YinYin giving me some advices to either make a original balance for him or just avoid LFO chars at all, when I PMed him the char for testing (I might be wrong though, that was a looong time ago).
There are some chars designs that look good, like Dilun, Stinky(nice name...) or Sun. But some of the old ones are completely ruined, like Jan. The completely new characters are either just unoriginal or anime stereotypes. 'Uranus', for example, is an exact copy of Edward Elric from FMA. EXACT COPY.
(TOO MANY EDITS... BUT I DON'T WANT TO CLUTTER THE THREAD EVEN MORE D:)
@ YinYin
Touche. It's like he never leaved... he was probably in the shadows waiting for the chance to bring awesomeness again :p

As per lf2TimmE1 suggestion, I had downloaded the LFO Davis char and here is its short review, or recital, if you will. Some may find it offensive, some may experience explosive diarrhea, some may even enjoy it and find it entertaining. Read at your own risk. And sorry for hijacking the thread. Not really.
Subject matter
Now, please, don't get me wrong. LFO is not a bad game. It's totally, absolutely and positively a big pile of S.H.I.T. of a game done wrong, aka sh*t HELL IN TURD, and not a worthy LF sequel. In fact, let me quote the players opinions straight from wikipedia (we <3 you Jimmy Wales!), because I only briefly played this at first glance amazing, but on second - completely unfun to stay with underdog.
"Like some of the other MMORPGs in HK, Little Fighter Online is played on several servers which are not stable. Players complain that the programming system of the game is too weak and have many bugs, lag, prone to have errors, cheat-engine always easy to use. Little Fighter Online was popular at game launch, but most of the players have left the game because of various reasons, like the lack of quality in the game."
Flamewar material right there, but there's little with whom you'd be arguing about. Still don't believe me? Check out the comments on youtube under LF Online videos. But let's calm down, relax, inhale-exhale. Okay. I'm ready to go. Yes, LFO designs look cool on paper. But did you see them in action? 3D rendering horribly ruined what was a sacred 2D realm sleeping beauty. It's unnatural, haughty and generally bad to look at. What were they thinking? Were they on drugs? Did someone lobotomized the creators? I can only blame Oscar Chu, because I admire Marti Wong too much for my own good. That's that for the prologue. Some of you may hate me for what I said, some might even agree. Let's cooperatively let the topic slide aside and hope for the better future of tomorrow. Or even... Little Fighter 3. Eh? EH?
Representation
As Apoc himself mentioned, this is a Davis skin. But boy does it look good. The tight sweater fits perfectly around Davis' muscular physique, showing his pecs and a slim waist, while you can see white shirt sleeves and a collar. Droopy wide jeans cover his trained legs and white sneakers finish the now slightly brown-haired Davis look. One might turn gay for this stylish Davis. As I did.
Technique
Energy attacks are now lightly blue from darkly blue. The glow effects on Davis' body when he launches away some chi blasts are just superb. You feel like dancing around on a flashy... well, dance floor. Now the minuses: the super dragon punch is a blast to use, but feels overwhelmingly overpowered and overmanly (not in machismo, but in ubermensch sense). And your opponent is dead quicker than you can say "over-over-over", or "three times over", if you like. Dragon Cannon is also somewhat of a failure. One thing when Firzen uses it, completely another when a hard puncher like Davis steals his move. Oh, also there's a punch in the air like dragon punch, but without the power aura. Of course, you can use it in a combo with singlong, but isn't that's why the original dragon punch, thankfully, is there. These unnecessary moves hinder the experience, but you can choose to ignore them, as I did, and have a blast.
Final comments
I realize that this is one of the "first and last" (to quote Apoc) of LF Online character transitions to LF2 and I am very sad. If Marti would've paid Apoc to recreate all of the characters (with him willing, of course) and design the new ones, with or without the unnecessary new moves, it would've been a better game for all of the fans alike. Even if fashion dictates that you have to expand it to a MMORPGer, I would've still had played it. That intent alone was noble and in comparison to LF Online - a stroke of old-school, hardcore and a bit of... yes, I'm going to use it... ready? GENIUS!

New sprites are looking great as usual. Nevertheless I'd go for a kind of leg movement similar to Justin. I'm specifically talking about the - from our perspective - left leg, which bends outwards.
