lol, yes. I remember when my chicken/cow/sheep die, and I'd grieve as if they were real. There would be a burial event and stuff.. Good old days XD.

edit: I could never win that dog race either, because mine would just not run fast at all. But yes, it is a good example of a game with great replay value.
