High-quality sprited characters
#27
Interesting discussion going on here... must have missed this while I was out of the country.

@FirzenX & Chase:
Yea, that's about how it is. I don't post in alot of spriters' threads because they're at a level where there are other intermediate spriters who are able to and DO help out already. (Like PF, Alec etc giving most of the comments to chase and firzenx.)
Also, like marshall mentioned, in my time there weren't much tutorials and advanced spriters around giving advice, so I mainly picked up my skills from studying more or less the only good spriter around at that time; Ricky.
I did stumble across a few tutorials but I never felt that they helped much. Studying different sprites of different grades has always been the best way to learn for me. Sprinkle in the occasional advice or two to clue in spriters on what to observe when studying sprites has always been my preferred manner of aid.
There's really no need for me to say what has already been said by those who are more active. haha. That and I'm busy with the army. bleh.

That said, the recent spriters who've improved monstrously in such a short time really surprise me and put me to shame. Though there is the factor of improved learning resources and community, I still feel that they deserve more due credit to their own ability. No matter how good the assistance is, spriting, like all art, depends more on personal diligence in practice and insightful observation than anything else to grow. And in this area which I actually take pride in, a lot of you guys have me beat, hands down. Which is damned impressive.

Though, that said, I'll reserve the right to remain a little pleased with the fact that no matter how much more skilled the newer spriters are than I am, my wealth of experience still shows in my sprites and give them an edge of their own. :P
Though, apoc... You're still a pain in the a** for being as good as you are... putting me under alot of pressure to keep my game up... considering I've double your experience and yet my sprites are still falling behind a little. Grrrr.... oh well... friendly competition always helped to raise the bar. I am thankful for such pressure, and I'll make good use of it.
