Daymio Wrote:why isn't she blinking on the 2nd animation? Luti Wrote:Well the old one has 3 frames for blinking so...
it would screw up the sequence of the new 8 frame gif @Luti
so the wind affects her blouse(?) and cape but not her hair or hood? work on that and it'll be a lot more fluid and natural as opposed to the current semi-static look

offtopic: hey luti one question, how get transparent background without any pixel?
cool work daymio. but who's that? revamp by Yin?
yes no bling bling eyes. if the wind comming from the right-side, no wind affects on blouse, hood & hair as marshall has said.

@Sonic Boom
ummm no....
@ Marshall
thanks for the heads up, i'll make sure to update that too!
@Doj
make sure that all layers are transparent by turning on the Alpha Channel
next delete background to all frames (don't worry about the invisible outline the .gif will take care of tht)
now the most important thing copy this into the layer attributes:
Layer name: " Frame ?? (100ms) (replace)"
the "ms" is the speed of each frame and the "(replace)" just replaces the last frame for every layer
you can also do "(combine)" to minimize the file size but it will show the previous layers that have gone by and only looks good in still motion
@anyone
i just got informed that we might have more entires along the way but they wanted me to extend the deadline so here goes...

I rmb Yinyin had a short GIF animation of mina doing a 2 or 3 hit kick shrafe... so I always figured Mina to be a Mixed Martial Artist, or at least some kind of kickboxer.
Anyway, C&C would be appreciated, especially on the design.
I've tried to keep close to the original design of Mina, whilst updating it abit:
- Hair
Obviously needed some serious re-interpretation... but I tried to keep the main "swept back, semi-woody-ish hairstyle" look intact, while adding some wavy locks to help her look more effeminate. Also added some tail hair, to continue the whole "wild" look while differentiating it from the overdone "woody's spikes".
- Clothing
Pretty much stuck to the same stuff, added some gloves and optional shin guards.
Do you guys think its better with or without? without is more source-authentic, as I don't see alot of MMA fighters actually wearing shin guards. I dunno if its not allowed in certain leagues or if its just not that useful? but the legs might look kinda sparse without them.
- Pose
Standard MMA guard, tried to keep it dynamic instead of lf2's usually static and stiff standings.
Still have difficulty with them though.
- Proportion
Lately I think my sense of proportion isn't consistent anymore. I don't have a fixed proportion for my sprites... which probably isn't good. This current one is abit leaner than usual, coming close to my previous Revamp of Nick. But I did this one at scale, not upscaled.
- Muscles/Anatomy
Heh, had fun with muscles here. Nothing much to be said, more or less of my same old, same old.
Still not used to drawing the hips. I think my anatomical knowledge in that area is lacking. probably have to do more practice. If anyone can spot what's wrong (which is kinda difficult at this size, which is probably also why I could get away with drawing without proper understanding.), please give me a heads up.
Or if anyone knows of a good reference for the hip's skeletal and muscular mechanical workings... also please link me.
- Shading
Bleargh, more of my "SPAM THE BLENDED SHADES" style. Looks good, but terribly inefficient.
I should probably practice more high contrast, clear definition style like Luti or Apoc. It's definitely more practical, and probably nicer.

1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

I like it both with shin guards and without shin guards. However, looking at the original (or even remembering it), I've always thought Mina had that wild Spartan / Tarzan feel which makes the shin guards a bit excessive.
As for Pose, it's does look a bit static, but I think once you have a simple animation of her moving sideways slightly (you know... the type where fighters are always on guard and ready to move) then it would be good. I love the angle of her right leg a lot. Also, in this point of view, it's quite hard to see her backside anyway.

Well.. that's how MMA fighters are. haha. Give her a few years, she'll get her face beaten bloody and misshapen soon enough.
And I'm flattered that you've almost gone straight on her face alone. lol.
@Marshall:
Yea, I was thinking about working on a sway animation... but am still hesitant. Lazy? lol. Maybe I'll give it a quick and dirty try, I still have her body sprite in parts anyway.
I was contemplating between doing that and doing a quick copy, but in a shading style more like what Luti and Apoc does, just for a quick comparison.
EDIT:
Decided to go without shin guards. 7 frame cycle(meant to be 8 but got lazy. lol.), though it could technically be reduced to a 4 frame cycle with less shoulder sway.
