BIG: Marti Wong has posted about LF2 Remastered project

Since this is just few frames and not even sure if these are final or still early wips it's hard to say. To me this looks like every generic approach of spriting, where most is hand drawn and some parts are reused/rerigged. Same process as most artists used for lf2 custom sprites. Not the most cost effective method but definitely more spirit than just fully rigged/skeletal animation such as Hf got.

I wouldn't really complain on lf2 animation. Not super dynamic, sometimes gets a bit fuzzy but generally handled pretty well and it's building up games art style.

The problem I see with remaster sprites is: it is basically a downgrade despite being higher resolution. New sprites follow different style by choosing a hard outline and dropping on soft shadows. These baggy pants used to be nicely soft shaded, now it's hard shadow edge and just looks super cartoony. Same for smears and imo bad looking secondary lighting from projectiles. I understand these decisions were probably made to cut production time and it feels like a good compromise so the sprites ever get finished. Still I think the outline is unnecessary and makes it look like 2005 flash game.

After I heard that I'm start to think the meaning what we are doing now,we once thought it's the last official version————lf2 v2.0a,and then marti remaster it.
Does this mean that all these years of work have become a thing of the past?

Dragonball Fighterz and Borderlands 3 be like "what are you talking about"?

Adding proper outline to 3D models actually needs an expensive postprocessing shader.
In Borderlands if you disable it you get massive boost to performance. But I prefer it with outline. It meant to look cartoony.

It's not the fact that there's any outline. It's about how it's handled. 3d is much different from 2d in the first place. The outline Marti uses has almost no weight variety, it looks amateur. Especially in the hands and head area.
Lineart can make things look good if properly executed. Just saying that Marti's lineart is pretty bad and imo could just be removed, to make things look better without much effort.

These are really unexpected news, I personally am glad to see anything new regarding LF2 and I am really looking forward to see how the remake turns out.
I am open to some changes and new content, but I also want it to feel as close as possible to the original, just with qol improvements. Hopefully it will be easier to mod and have Steam Workshop support too, so people would be able to make mods for it.
I guess only time will tell what will come out of this, still exciting news nonetheless.

Very happy with the new design for Davis.
probably everyone has seen it already, but if not (Click to View)
Just read on Marti's Patreon that we'll get to see Woody's and Dennis new looks soon =D.

By the way, does anyone know what happened to that company U(1) technology having the rights to LF2?
I remember at one point these rights were what prevented a sequel to LF2 and had Marti move on to Hero Fighter.

This is EPIC. It looks like a Remake and not a Remastered, which I'm very glad to see. Can't wait for the release.

I would love some optional skins. Like most fighting games nowadays...
