just because someone else decides to depict a character differently does not mean you should whine about "glory stealing". If you don't want "glory stealing", do something you're good at that no one else is. I could whine about blowfly's data changer surpassing mine, but no, i actually use (and like) his coz it's more convenient for certain stuff ftm. get mad yes, but get working. Sieg's got a quality standard that says "things must be this good before I accept it". Actually most people (should) have it. it just depends on how low or how high it is. if your "quality bar" is higher, then you'd see that there's things to improve on your own "Frozen" (more fluid moves, sprite quality consistency).
I'm not trying to be offensive, so I'll contrast it with the "data workstation" project.
Data workstation:
- tabs
- syntax highlighting
- visual connection to sprite
- buggy find and replace
- reference guide at the bottom
- works in different OSes (i use linux sometimes)
FLight DCer:
- tabs
- syntax highlighting
- Ctrl + click "goto"
- find and replace works
- windows only
looking at this, arguably i'd use mine more for character development (coordinate placement), but for test-chars for HQ, I use blowfly's coz I don't need exact placement of xpoints if I want to test a new feature or something (faster for frame creation). To say "mine's better, blowfly's stealing my glory" would not be wise. First, I can see his has quality, and whatever he's put in are more "practical" in terms of what people are used to seeing from Jiquera's (i'm sure most people would've been referring to LFE for their references anyway). Mine's more "convenience" based, where I want to get _____ weapon or character done quickly. However, I know I would probably get a higher quality object if I DCed using blowfly's as I would take more care in finding out the coordinates and whatnot.

if you want to rant about how multiple people want to do "Frozen", do it outside - pm, msn, whatever. I don't want this thread, Freeza's thread and possibly Timme's to be a waste of reading. don't flame as this would cause action to be taken.

Well.. just for the record. I don't mind the design and some of the individual sprites themselves, its just that some of the later animations by freeza lose the original quality of the first few frames.
But yea, I admit I could've done it with alot more grace. It was a late night and I was feeling all emotional. So I slipped up there.

Again, my problem lies not in the design of the sprite, but the later frames of animation in the sheet loses the personality and quality of what yinyin started.
If there were records of the original project Yinyin did and my comments, you would see that I was pretty impressed with the quality.

Once again I reiterate. The interpretation is not the problem, the overall quality level of the spritesheet is.
But yes. I've been a bastard. I dislike his Frozen, because I'm partial to the quality Yinyin has been working at. I've conceded that his sprites are pretty good, as my objective eye can still see... But I still dislike his Frozen.
Now, can we get on with it and continue working on our respective Frozens? Freeza and Adam are almost completing theirs. I actually haven't started serious work on mine coz I have to finish somethingelse for Azriel first as I've mentioned.
So go rub it in my face later when theirs is released and mine is only a WIP. Put some pressure on me. Make me crack, watch me crumble and watch my spritesheet lose quality as well and then burn me for it. Or watch me stay focused keep going. I wonder if I've finally met Ricky's expectations. Too bad neither he nor I are working on EC anymore.

2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

Heh, good to hear. I need to get on MSN more often, but I have been busy with exams (11 done, 4 more and loads of homework to go -all because of those three weeks of holidays because of the flu-)... And when I'm not busy I'm lazy.

GCSE? And, I'd sod the clean up - just looking at the messages make's everyone go into a rage and then say: 'you know what? I'll show them! I'll make the best damned sprites anyone has ever seen!!'
It's actually very good for the Spriters to be spurred on by comments and challenges. Note - when Prince_Freeze's Frozen sprites were commented as 'good, but not what I expect of Frozen' - he has gone out and produced better sprites. Take a look at Darius v2 for example. I've never seen Freeze sprite that well. And I have to say - well done him. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone .
One day, I shall become, TUTORIAL-MAN: Superhero of writing overly long, overly annoying tutorials which most people probably won't read, but will give it a stab at the first 5 lines!

Alright, this is colour scheme number 5, with the tweaked face and hairstyle.
Hair shading is simplified to allow me to be able to more consistently recreate it in later frames.
And now, recap on the current theme and feel to Frozen:
Frozen is outwardly calm and cool, but also has a ferocious side to him.
This should be reflected in him having both elegant and brutal moves.
With his elegant and calm moves, he'll have better control over his ice and wind powers.
With his more brutal moves, his ice and wind powers will dwindle, while he relies on adrenaline rushes to help him do more physical damage.
Now I'll be working on a movelist and some concept sketches. As long as no one has anymore suggestions on improving the sprite design.

Good to go from my side. Sure thing, the sprite is good enough to be continued. As for attacks, I'd still prefer some sort of airy move. Maybe some sort of shock wave? Or an attack which lifts the opponent(s) or you up into the sky. Okay, I really have no clue :P
