I don't know about you but I find only doing sprites and not making full sheets out of them pointless.
If you focus on only single sprites, that would probably mean you treat them more like art, a one-off thing, a single image with a single idea that you finish within easily measurable time.
If that's the case, then why restrict yourself to an 80x80 pixel sprite?
Why not try doing a full sized image where you have more resolution to play with and thus more freedom to illustrate ideas?
The biggest advantage of pixel sprites these days is that its relatively low detail because of the limited resolution available, and that allows a person to churn out a lot of it without too much effort.
And what can a person do with a large number of images? make a sequence out of them of course, animation! and perhaps, an interactive animated object, be it characters, backgrounds, weapons of games, or other kind of things.
So why?
Just a thought.
i know what your saying (inspiring but yeah* no)
I usually just put it off as just a single sprite...
i don't have ~really~ the time and experince to make an actual char.
maybe if peopled helped out a-bit
maybe you can show me a-little...and we can colaberate? through pm's...
Anyways yeah*
not into making actual sprite sheets...
(unless ALOT of people want to encoarge me into doing one)
Also here's another sprite for ya guys

Anime is an easy way to base ur sprites off of...
not so sure of real life pics though?
U know what could be a really cool idea?
If there was a thread on Real Pics converted to sprites?
and u know what i think i will
i'm not really ready to do actual people...
thats why i delayed the Mr. Bean thing...

Face still looks abit boyish. Since female faces are really difficult, try using jan's face as a base first. then modify it from there.
Also, on the sleeveless side the shoulder looks too broad and muscular, looks like that arm belongs to a guy.
Why don't you make this into a full character?
The clothing doesn't look too complicated, and the design is pretty interesting. It shouldn't be too difficult to make Zalfa's full sheet.
"I may devour the five continents, and swallow the three seas, but a body with neither wings, nor hands, nor feet, is powerless against the sky."
My stuff:
| sprites | frozen |
1) DO NOT PM ME
2) Go read up on anatomy and proportions online. (google is your best friend)
3) Go read up on pencil sketching-shading.
4) Practice by making FULL character sheets. (Refer to bases and references if you have to, occasionally try doing things from scratch. You have to mix both methods; bases and without.)
5) DO NOT be an arrogant, self-righteous prick when people try to give useful critiques, and ignore the ones who are flaming idiots. (Flaming them back makes you one of them.)
6) Repeat steps 2 to 5 until you're happy, or you think you're good, then start sharing your knowledge with your fellow spriters.
7) Showcase your sprites. At first, do not be discouraged when you don't get any critiques, or lousy/generic critiques. Continue practicing and showcasing your work. With more sprites, it will be clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are, and people may be better able to give you better critique.
Lastly, if you think saying all this makes me an arrogant, self-righteous prick who is too selfish to share his knowledge...
Then I say you cannot recognise wisdom when I've just slapped you in the face with it. (Also, those steps are the same steps I used to get to where I am, I don't know any way else to truly learn.)
Unless you think its worth my time, go F*** yourselves. I'm not going to bother to even reply to PMs like "can you help me make this character?" anymore.

Okay these are the things I had in my mind when I looked at Zalfa:
Lots of explosion, storms over seas, lighting-bold and then Zalfa come out of Zeus template and some guy says 'Zelfa, the terror from the goods, send to destroy the evil in this world', well something like that.
The body looks weird, have to agree with Siegvar about the arms and they face, try more girlish, also have one more thing to add is that can you make like a real fist not a cartoon type.
If you don't have a look about the fist let me explain much better way, you know how in maplestory they have round hand, but in real live we have fingers.
Also like the second one and make the sleeves more smaller.
I am back, not really.

I made most of her by hand except used Jan's body
Ugh* my mom and sis said the same thing 'bout the body
She is supposed to be tough, not so much muscular (but ok and fit)
I had in mind back then to make her, but i could think of a good clothing design...
I will update her, possibly NEW CHAR!
(also new stance)

I know what u mean but LF2 is more of like Real size-fighters, but really small for a screen...
If u look closely (hopefully) u will see that she has fingers...
I don't really want to change her position but if i make it into a character i guess i'll hafta...
I wasn't really into More Lightning, and world control over Gaia...
(too much powers to create)
I was thinking of Vines, and leaf, earth types...
does that sound good
(I'll still consider ur ideas Elias, anyone can pm me 'bout powers & all)
Alright i tried to fix her...
(eyes, robe, slim now)
so is this good?
i prefer the old eyes better~ if u ask me...

ey that looks a lot better, though i prefered the single sleeve zalfa
but still i actually reckon the female anatomy on zalfa can be improved
maybe you could trry...slight thinner arms? or er...thinner wrists. try that and see if the suggestion worked.
EDIT: ah i was extremely bored so i tried out my suggestion. hope you dont mind
the attempt =>
~its been a long time coming~
