rules will not fix the problem but create more work for moderators and a much more hostile environment as some users just may not understand
and possibly just to be safe never use the rep system
thats not the goal

For me just comments and thumbs up/down.Then per will be decided from these thumbs.
Example: user with 30 thumbs up in total and 10 thumbs down in total will have 20 rep.

you need to read the whole thing ;)

(05-29-2011, 03:16 PM)YinYin Wrote:  well perhaps allowing thumbs up/down to change the value of the rep by a whole point might be too much and lead to even more rep spamming - the usual notation 'x of y members found this rep appropriate' might be better, allowing you to look for the most agreed on comments
the ratio of agreeing/disagreeing members could then create the actual rep value

so if blue gave silva +2 rep for all his awesome hex achievements and 50 of 100 members agree with that it would amount to a total of +1
and as we all know normal users can only give +1 the usual rep values would range btw 0 and 1 (-1 for negative rep) depending on how many ppl agree

in short: everyone would end up with a fraction of the total rep he has now

one comment on topic from me
there is no reason to not use a functionality we have
also it is possible to change the reputation given to someone

if a newbie receives lots of negative rep simply because he spams and acts stupid/intolerant he can always better himself and then kindly ask the users in question whether they can turn the negative into neutral
if he just throws an unreasoned negative right back at them they will of course not change their mind any time soon

and i will thumb down every rep you have if you have to act corrupt and childish like that
also watch your sarcasm - its impossible to notice it for sure if there is no indicator whatsoever :p

problem is that the thank button is not only used for thanks, but also for agreeing etc. which makes a rep based on that ... untrue.

The Lost Global Mod edited this post 05-31-2011 07:33 PM because:

Heh, cmon guys, can you seriously get disturbed over a dumb pointless number under each username?
So what if user has over nine hundred thousand positive reputation, when judging by a few of his posts, he is... well... [insert random offending term here]

(Reminds me - whole youtube is overflown with "sub4sub" and no admin there is going to prevent subscribing now because of that.)

Comparing LFE to Youtube is a little too much. It is unrealistic to believe admins on Youtube could control billions of members, meanwhile it is perfectly reasonable to expect authorities on LFE to handle those 40 active members.
