LF2 Articles

LF2 uses a graphics card function that flips images horizontally. However, some modern graphics cards today (notably NVidia) don't have this function.

As a result, Marti made a fix in the v2.0a EXE that allows direct loading of _mirror.bmp sprites. Unfortunately, many mods were made back then under v1.9/1.9c.

While most mods can still run properly with v2.0a EXE, there are others that rely on certain tricks or have heavily modded EXEs that won't work with this method. Also, some people may be too lazy to use A-Man's sprite mirrorer to make _mirror files for the 2.0a EXE to load.

Hence, here is a set of 3 DLLs that you can place inside LF2 folder directly, containing:
  • ddraw.dll (587kb)
  • libwine.dll (1769kb)
  • wined3d.dll (1397kb)

Once placed, you can simply run the lf2.exe directly as per normal.

What these DLLs do is allow you to run very old LF2 mods(generally running on 1.9/1.9c exe) without facing the left-facing sprite issue. This is useful if those old mods use particularly many/large sprites that cannot be loaded properly on 2.0a EXE, or have heavily modified EXE.

Personally, I found that this very slightly blurs the game's image quality and it won't allow OBS to capture the game window directly (you have to use capture monitor instead), but its a minor tradeoff compared to actually fixing the left-right issue when playing on older LF2 versions.

YinYin: "I've written this little program that detects your button inputs and overlays them onto your screen which i find really usefull myself for recording fights/combos/tutorials.
I've kept it as simple as possible:

The arrows light up white when they are pressed,
the buttons in the colors of the official control guide;
you can drag it anywhere and close it by right clicking it"

  • also works on 64win7 now
  • can display the selected player - the last performed input
  • log your every move (which you can then copy, or reset with F4)
  • all optional settings

An essential part of fighting online is being able to communicate with your opponent. Since LF2 does not have a built-in chat program, it is highly recommended that you agree upon an instant messaging service such as IRC, Skype, ICQ, QQ, or something comparable.

Hamachi

Another useful program is Hamachi. It creates a network that players can join and it allows people to play network-games (such as LF2) over the internet.

LF2 Lobby

Chiko has written a program which lets you connect to up to 3 other players simultaneously. You can find the download and more infos about it here.

Once you have your instant messaging system and you are chatting to your opponent, you are ready to connect.

IMPORTANT!
Make sure both of you are using an unmodified version of LF2 (or use the same mod)! Only if you and your opponent use the same sets of characters, weapons, backgrounds, etc. you are able to play!

To get started, open up LF2 and click on Network Game. The number displayed is your IP-address. You will also see two buttons, "Connect to opponent" and "Wait for opponent". Just decide who will connect to whom. If your opponent connects to you, all you have to do is give them your ip address including the dots(.) and click on "Wait for Opponent". If you are the one connecting, ask your opponent what his/her IP-address is. Then, click on "Connect to opponent", type in their IP-address and then click Connect. Make sure that your opponent is waiting for you when you try to connect!

Troubleshooting

I cannot connect to my opponent!
It just comes back saying "Unable to connect to server"

Usually this is because the person waiting has a firewall up. Here is the response Starsky wrote on the official site:

"In order to play with your friends in the Internet, the server side (the one who click "waiting") need to have a public IP address. Those IP like 192.168.X.X or 10.X.X.X are private IP address, which CANNOT be used as a server.

If you are behind a firewall at home, try to enable the NAT feature of the firewall to allow TCP 12345. The following are some example of firewall:
   1) Wireless router
   2) DSL/Cable router
   3) Software firewall like Microsoft, Norton, and Zone Alarm.

Once you enable NAT and allow TCP 12345 traffic, remember to give your public IP address, but NOT the private one, to your friends."

A much easier way around this is to simply download Hamachi and create a network for you and your opponent to join.

I was able to connect to my opponent,
but then it said "Synchronization Error"

IMPORTANT: You must have The Same Version of LF2 As Your Opponent!!!

When a synchronization error occurs, it means that one of you have something that the other does not have. Check to make sure that both of your data.txt are identical and that you do not have any edited characters/weapons/bgs/stages installed. If you download new characters and versions, it is advised that you keep an original copy of LF2 installed in a separate directory so you can still play the basic LF2 online with anybody.

I am trying to connect with my opponent through Hamachi, but it doesn't work!!

If you are having trouble connecting with your opponent through Hamachi, first make sure they are waiting and you are entering the correct IP-address (the one they have in Hamachi). If you are still having problems, both you and your opponent should restart Hamachi and LF2.

When I'm playing online, sometimes my character gets stuck moving in a certain direction!

This may happen to you if another window pops up while you are holding a direction key down. To fix this, all you have to do is pressing the direction keys your character walks to.

With this tool you can slow down the gameplay speed. This is usefull to train your online fight skills because usually the speed during an online fight is much slower. There are several different apps available which are listed below.

Rammichael's FPS-changer

To use it start LF2 first, then launch the FPS Changer and set the frame per second you want to have. Then click on "Write" in the FPS Changer and click on "Game Start" in LF2.exe.
If you play now you'll recognize the game is much slower.
Note: The FPS-changer only works if you kept your LF2-application's filename (i.e. "lf2.exe") untouched!

FPS changer for 2.0a by Surik

Start the program as well as lf2.exe. The number will let you change the delay between frames (standard is 33 ms). Lower numbers will make the game run faster (1 ms is equivalent to 1000 fps) and higher numbers will make it run slower like in online fights (100 ms would be 10 fps -- a value that is common for long-distance-matches).

Cheat Engine

This program is actually much more than an fps changer and is mostly used for hex-editing. However, you can also use it for settting the game's speed. For this, you'll have to start LF2 and Cheat Engine (also abbreveated as "CE"). Then, in CE, go to "File > Open Process". In the popup, find the LF2-process. On the right side of CE, you should be now able to select "Enable Speedhack". Check it and adjust the speed to your likings (this is a factor that is multiplied onto your original framerate. For example, a factor of 0.5 will mean that LF2 will run at 15 fps).

1) Cheat
To play as any of the Bonus characters, enter "lf2.net" during the loading screen or while you're on the character selection screen. This cheat also unlocks a new difficulty: "CRAZY!"

2) Fusion
There's also a way to play as Firzen without the cheat. If Firen and Freeze are on the same team and they both have less than 1/3 of their hp, then if they run into the other, Firzen will appears with a giant explosion. The player who is running to the left will control Firzen while the other player will disappear.  To split back into Freeze and Firen, press DJA

3) Transform from Louis to LouisEX
You can also use Louis to transform into LouisEX when you have under 1/3 of your total hitpoints.  Press the keycombination [Defend] + [Jump] + [Attack] and Louis will throw his armour away and change into LouisEX. The armour lies around as heavy weapons.

4) Pause Game without Pause-Logo (only for versions prior to v2.0)
If you press F10 during gameplay the game will pause without showing the Pause-Logo. Very practical for Screenshots. The only bad about this: If you press F10 during walking and end pause you walk without pressing a key - just start an attack or run and you'll go to "normal control" again...
1) LF2 MultiTrainer (for v1.9c)

If you want to play without looking on your lives all the time you need this tool. With Silva's new Trainer for LF2_v1.9c you can give your character unlimited lives. But to make it work you have to choose player 3 in the character selection menu, that's all. Have fun!

Multitrainer
2) Function keys

Key Function   Key Function
F1 Pause   F6 Unlimited MP
F2 Pause (Step by Step)   F7 500 HP
F3 Function key Lock   F8 Drop weapons from the sky
F4 Restart   F9 Destroy all weapons
F5 Faster movements   Esc Quit

3) Team commands

Come: D + J + D + J
Stay: D + D + D + D
Move: D + A + D + A

4) Fight stuff

Run: Press "To the right" or "To the left" to times.
Catch: Punch the enemy so he's in "dance of pain" and walk into him.
Throw: If you want to throw a catched enemy move in the direction you want to throw him and press "Attack".

5) Maximise LF2 (for v1.9c)

If you want to play Little Fighter 2 over the whole screen you can download the maximierer-tool or you start LF2. Next press "Crtl" + "Alt" + "Del", select LF2 - Right click - Maximise. Have fun ^_^

6) Ingame Bugs

There're a lot of bugs in LF2 - here you can find a list: » Forum Thread «
